I was born and raised on Barra and have been lucky enough to call it home all my life. Now retired, I previously worked as the administrator for our family business. Community involvement has always been important to me, and over the years I have taken an active role in a range of local initiatives, including the early years of Fèis Bharraigh and the Isle of Barra Dancing Association as my children were growing up.

Over thirty years ago, I established the local Macmillan Cancer Fundraising Committee, serving continuously since its inception. One of my proudest achievements was the creation of the Barrathon, which became one of the island’s key fundraising events for Macmillan. Around twenty-five years ago, I became (and remain) involved with Cobhair Bharraigh, recognising the challenges faced by carers and the importance of providing them with greater support. Cobhair Bharraigh continues to play a vital role in supporting both vulnerable members of our community and those who care for them.

It is a privilege to now serve on the board of WICCI. Like so many others, my family has been personally affected by cancer, and I have seen how the physical, emotional, and mental challenges it brings can be compounded by the inequalities experienced in island communities. I welcome the opportunity to advocate for those facing difficult circumstances and to contribute, in whatever way I can, to easing some of the pressures they encounter.
