Sometimes navigating the path through cancer treatment can be tough, there’s often lots of information being thrown at you and details of who can help you at this time, so we thought we should break down a bit about what WICCI (Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative) is all about…
We are a local Charity, established in 2017 to help people with some financial support as they go through treatment. Our Social Fund is open to anyone going through treatment with grants of up to £500 available. The application process is easy, confidential and discreet. We receive funding from Macmillan Cancer Support to run this fund, which comes directly from the money raised in the Western Isles for Macmillan through fundraising from the likes of Macmillan Cancer Support – Isle of Lewis
We have supported 480 applications for funding, distributing over £250,000 since the fund opened in 2018.
We also run lots of complementary therapies and counselling sessions from our base in Stornoway and also throughout the Islands (when covid restrictions ease).
We have Oncology Massage, Reiki, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Podiatry, Mindfulness Coaching, Art Therapy, Counselling and more. These sessions are available to anyone affected by cancer, with up to 6 free treatments available. These are funded directly from donations received.
Last year we also lunched the WICCI Rainbow Care Boxes which are gift boxes that can be sent to people who are going through treatment, containing a mix of practical and comforting items to help them at that time. More details can be found at WICCI Rainbow Care Boxes – Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative (WICCI)
That’s just a snapshot of what we do – we also help signpost you to other agencies, run information sessions on topics related to cancer treatment or side effects and raise awareness of cancer related conditions and treatments.
We are a non-clinical service, we do not provide medical advice or deal with your treatment plan or delivery – we leave that to the professionals
If you are, or someone you know is, going through or been through cancer treatment, then please do get in touch to discuss how we could possibly support you. We are just at the end of the phone (01851 706721), email (email@example.com) or direct message though our social media channels (@wiccioffice).
You don’t need to go down this track alone.
